KOLKATA: On Valentines’ Day, when youths of the city will be busy expressing their feelings to their partners, an NGO will organise a countrywide awareness campaign, ‘#Valentine Rapes Men’, informing people how more and more men are falling into the trap of false cases after a failed relationship.
According to stats released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), in 86 per cent (37,413) of the rape cases filed in 2014, the accused were known to the victim. Out of the 17,649 rape trials completed, only 4,944 were convicted and 12,705 were acquitted or discharged.
“The false cases were thrice as much as the genuine ones. After a failed relationship, women have often used the law against men, either to take revenge, or for extortion or financial gain. It shows that most of the time, the relationship is consensual and not forced upon the victim,” said Amit Gupta, convener of National Coalition for Men (NCM).
